Music
Everyone likes some kind of music and music was and still is one of the most important things that come in
mind when people discuss culture, everyday life, hobbies and so on. So what is music? At first, music is a
kind of art – therefore it is an important part of every culture. Speaking of culture, I think it is OK to say that
music is as old as the humanity itself.
Although music is very old and there is a lot to speak about, I’ve decided to take a look at the modern music
and some genres of it. At first, I’d like to point out that in history, especially in Europe, only people from the
highest social classes were able to put together some large compositions. A lot of those marvelous pieces
of art even lasted to these days as one of the best. But what is important is the fact that in the 20 th century,
the music started becoming more accessible to everyone. The closer we’re getting to the present, the more
people could make their own music.
Now let’s take a look at some of the most popular genres of the present. The most popular music genre is
pop music. Pop stands for “popular music”, actually contains a lot of subgenres and can be heard
everywhere, mostly in radios. The second most popular genre appears to be rock, which also has a lot of
subgenres. One of the most popular genres, especially for the young people, is hip hop and rap. Another
genre I’m going to mention is EDM – as all of the mentioned, it has a lot of subgenres. EDM stands for
“Electronical Dance Music”, and that’s why it is attractive to the young audience – it is made just out of
computer generated sounds, the artist needs to just be good at controlling some music studio programs
and that’s it. There are many more genres, like RnB (Rhythm and Blues) or metal for example.
I asked few people what is their most favorite music genre, you can take a look at the graph below (it is
quite biased, mostly because of my own music taste, which actually affects how I choose my friends):
