ANKARA
Ankara is the capital city of Turkey. It includes 25 districts. Ankara is the second most crowded city in Turkey with the population of about 5 million. Ankara is the center of Turkey that’ s why it’ s called‘‘ the heart of Turkey ".
History
After the Independence War of Turkey, Ankara developed quickly. Right now the cities economy mostly based on industry and commerce. Because of the opportunities the city has, it receives a lot of immigration. Ankara hosted many civilizations like; Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantie and Ottoman.
Places to visit in Ankara
In Ankara there are a lot of important castles, bathes, and mosques for example; Ankara Castle, Suluhan, Çengelhan, Karacabey Bathe, Aladdin Mosque, Zincirli Mosque, and most importantly Anatolia Civilizations Museum. But there is one place that everybody has to visit: Anıtkabir. Anıtkabir is the tomb of our great leader Atatürk. Every 10th November we go there and we commemorate him. It was built on 1st September 1953 and it was made of a lot of columns. Anıtkabir is also a museum of Atatürk.
IZMIR
Izmir is a metropolitan city of Anatolia and the third most populated city in Turkey, following Istanbul and Ankara. It is the second populated city on Aegen Sea after Athens, Greece. In 2014, Izmir had a total population of about 4 million. Izmir is an important exhibition center and port city that organizes Izmir International Fair every year. Izmir, a lively and cosmopolitan city, also holds organizes International Art Festivals and Izmir International Fair.
History
Old Izmir city( Smyrna), it was built on an island on the northeast of the gulf with an area of about 100 acres. The first settlements on the western Anatolian coast was usually located on the small peninsula. These are settlements such as Phokoia( Foça), Smyrna( Izmir), Millet and Iasos. Former Izmir settlement was on this peninsula for about 3000 years.
