OFFICERS OF THE CLUB Club President: Doug Glidden Club Vice President: Mark Harris Club Chairman: Jed Hewitt Football Chairman: Jed Hewitt Vice chairman: Keith Humphreys Treasurer: Jackie Herniman Membership secretary: Carla Edgecumb Social secretary: Jed Hewitt After all the team selection headaches I have had during the season, I can safely say that selecting a team for last Wednesday night’s match against Ivybridge Town proved probably the worst experience I have had so far. .............................................. I must have picked a starting XI at least eight times, with players still crying off right up to two hours before the game! 1st team/youth secretary: Keith Humphreys 2nd team secretary: Nick Westcott 1st team manager: Peter Buckingham 1st team assist. manager: Simon Harder 1st team assist manager/physio: Dave Griffiths 1st team matchday secretary: Dave Cooke 2nd team manager: Mark Vellacott 2nd team assistant managers: Ian Edgecumb & John Body 2nd team Physio: Luke Thomas 3rd team manager: Colin Butt 3rd team assistant manager: Shawn Legg U18 manager: Jason Rainey U18 assistant managers: Matt Howe & Neil Hopkins U16 manager: Adrian White Ladies team manager: Jade Maryan Ladies team coach: Adam Burden I was without nine recognised first teamers, either through injury, work commitments or holidays and was forced to field seven of our U18s – all of whom were either 16 or 17 years-old. .............................................. I would like to make a special mention of Tom Kelly. He informed me earlier in the day that he was in no fit state to play because of the death of his Nan that morning. However, he turned up in the evening, saying he wanted to play and to score a goal in his Nan’s memory. He did not score, but he did make our goal. That attitude perfectly summed up our display and commitment. CLUB TRUSTEES: Alan Cockram, Peter Buckingham, Phil Howe & Pete Garnsworthy. But while the team selection proved a nightmare, the evening turned out to be one of the proudest moments of my season, despite our loss. The youngsters, together with only four recognised first team players, did not let me down. They battled and showed spirit, grit and determination from start to finish, despite them coming up against a much larger and physical side. I could not have asked more from them. It was only a couple of dubious refereeing decisions that gave the visitors the edge. The win took Ivybridge to the top of the table, but they certainly did not look like title winners on the night. Unfortunately we suffered a major blow when goalkeeper Joe Moore dislocated and fractured a finger in attempting to stop their second goal. Joe had been in superb form and been our only ever present this season – he is now out for the rest of the season. Enjoy BUXS 33
