“We can be consumed with how people see us,” Guzman said. “Self-image is how we make decisions. IMAGE is all rooted in our belief system.”

Further solidifying this belief is the idea that empowerment is not only built through self-worth, but through service, as well.

“Part of being empowered is that you need to contribute to the community,” Guzman said. “You need to give back. You need to provide service.”

As part of the Glass Slipper’s IMAGE Academy program, there is an emphasis on service learning,

which offers girls the opportunity to apply hard work and service to others through home décor, arts, party hosting, and hospitality training.

The service includes princess parties hosted by Glass Slipper girls. It is one of the Glass Slipper’s most successful events as it brings mothers together with their daughters to celebrate the child’s birthday. This monthly event is filled with pink hues, delicious cupcakes, and the smiles and laughter of happy girls.

The princess parties, along with most of the Glass Slipper’s events, are held in the Mariposa House located in Citrus Heights. The house is a combination of beauty, elegance, and warmth that invites the girls into an environment of love and safety. It is the hub of
