Some experiences involve the dissemination of factual material, while other experiences involve collaboration and creation of products or the exchange of ideas and opinions among students and teachers. Attendance in class each day is the only way to ensure students are provided with the best educational experience for success.
State of Connecticut Daily Attendance Guidelines Attendance Procedures- Per State of CT guidelines, a student must be present more than ½ of a school day to be considered“ Present” in school.
Daily Attendance
Chronic Absenteeism A student who misses 10 % on a running basis or( 18 school days) during a given 181-day school year, regardless of the absence reason, is considered“ Chronically Absent” according to the Connecticut State Department of Education. Chronic Absenteeism includes all excused and unexcused absences. Any student identified as chronically absent will have an absenteeism case reviewed by a school attendance team to discuss appropriate school intervention or community referrals for children and their parents or guardians.
Truancy – Unexcused Absence Truancy is an unexcused absence from school. State of CT statute defines a truant as a student with four( 4) unexcused absences in one( 1) month or 10 unexcused absences in a school year. If a student is identified as a truant a meeting with the parent of each child who is a truant, or other person having control of such child, and appropriate school personnel to review and evaluate the reasons for the child being a truant within 10 days of the student’ s 4 th unexcused absence in a month or 10 th unexcused absence in a year. Students that are habitually truant will be referred to Enfield Social Services and / or may be referred to the Department of Children and Family Services to obtain additional support for the family in meeting attendance requirements.
Excused Absences A student’ s full day absence from school shall be considered“ excused” from truancy identification if written documentation of the reason for the absence has been submitted within ten( 10) school days of the student’ s return to school and meets the following criteria:
1) For daily absences one( 1) through nine( 9), a student’ s absences from school are considered“ excused” when student’ s parent / guardian approves such absence and submits appropriate documentation to school officials( note that has name of student, date and time of absence, along with parent signature and contact phone number, or appropriate documentation through the ParentSquare attendance).
