As 2nd years we too were equally excited and elated as we came to know regarding our educational trip to Vizag. Everything was well-planned and things went as per the schedule. We took a bus from our college NITW to Visakhapatnam ,which took 15 hours to reach the port city of A.P. As we reached Vizag, our first destination was the Visakhapatnam steel plant, popularly known as Vizag steel is the most advanced steel producer in India with the help of German and soviet technology. Its products have been rated the best in the world market.80% of its income comes from the exports of steel products to japan, Germany, united states, Singapore, Dubai,Australia ,south american countries and many more. Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is setting up a 240Mw (120X2) captive power plant to meet its future power requirements. At present, it has a coalbased power plant -- about 18 Mw -- to run the 3-million tonne capacity steel plant. Vizag Steel Plant is the only Indian shore-based steel plant and is situated on 19,000 acres (7,700 ha), and is poised to expand to produce up to 20 MT in a single campus. Turnover in 2011-2012 was Rs 14,457 Crores. We also saw the blast furnace-A blast furnace is a type of metallurgical furnace used for smelting to produce industrial metals, generally iron. 39
