Riverside Explorer Competition
On October 7th and 8th, eight selected members
of the Explorer POST represented the El Dorado
County Sheriff’s Office in the 3rd Annual
Riverside Police Department Explorer
Competition hosted by the Riverside Police
Department Explorer POST 714. The eight
member Explorer team included Captain Grace
Hunter, Lieutenant Sam Jackowitz, Sergeant Josh
Jackowitz, Sergeant Steven Ross, Corporal Joe
Herrington, Corporal Laura Russell, Field
Training Officer Stefanie Davidson, and Deputy

In preparation for the competition, Explorers
received regular training in a variety of tactical
and leadership topics from expert members of
the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. After
rigorous training and preparation, the Explorer
team and their Sheriff’s Office Advisors traveled to Riverside, California where they joined 24
other regional Explorer teams to compete and
test their skills.
Each team demonstrated their skills and were
evaluated on reality based scenarios including
active shooter, pedestrian and traffic stops,
officer down, crisis negotiations, domestic
violence, crime scene investigations, airsoft
shooting competition, oral panel and
scholarship interviews, report writing and
obstacle courses.
The Explorers and Explorer Advisors worked very
hard with the support and assistance of Sheriff's

determination, and exceptional teamwork
displayed reflected positively on the entire
