Individuals Lead
Way for Dons

TEAM SPORTS HAVE A SUB-PAR SEASON WHILE THE
SOLO ATHLETES SHINE IN THEIR RESPECTIVE SPORTS
W
team was ranked No.4 and made
it to the second round of the
CCCAA SoCal Regionals where
it was knocked out by the No. 5
Santa Monica College.
The Dons finished with an
overall record of 12-4-5 and
earned the right to host two
home playoff games.
SAC’s men and women’s
basketball teams both had
disappointing seasons. The men
finished with a losing record of
8-20 while the women missed
the playoffs for the second
straight year with a record of 6-21.
In the Spring both baseball and
softball teams were eliminated
in the first round of the CCCAA
SoCal Regionals playoffs.
The No. 9 ranked Dons baseball
team finished with an overall
record of 24-15. Losing the first
series 2-1 to No. 8 ranked Mt. San
Antonio Mounties.
While the No.11 ranked, Dons
softball team was eliminated by
No. 6 Antelope Valley in an 8-1
and 10-1 series sweep.

Moreno wins first place for
the Dons in the 400-meter
hurdles at the OEC finals for
the first time in 13 years. He
would go on to place sixth
overall in the state.

SOPHOMORE WRESTLER
Vargas brought SAC its first
individual state wrestling
championship since 2012.
He fought his way through the
157-pound division defeating the
No.1 ranked wrestler in the state.
ith the 2018-2019 school
year coming to an end,
the Dons finish the year with
one Orange Empire Conference
champion and one California
Community College Athletic
Association Champion.
Both wins coming in individual
sports with Sophomore runner
Octavio Moreno placing first in
the OEC 400-hurdles finals in the
Spring, and Sophomore wrestler
Luis Vargas earning gold in the
CCCAA 157-pound division state
finals in the fall.
Moreno finished with the
second fastest time in Santa Ana
history in the 400-hurdles with a
time of 53.56 in the OEC finals. He
would go on to place sixth overall
in the State with a time of 54.87.
Vargas fought his way through
the 157-pound division to
earn the Dons its first state
championship since 2012. He
would outscore No. 1 ranked
Ruben Garcia from Fresno City
College 8-2 in the final match.
In the fall, the men’s soccer

Despite dropping a heartbreaker
to Santa Monica 2-1 at home, SAC
had an impressive season and has a
solid group returning for next fall.
