RECALL ALERT
Airbags
If you are an owner of a 2001 to
2003 Honda or Acura, you are at
a greater risk of suffering injuries
caused by defective airbag inflators
by a 50 percent chance of rupture
upon deployment.
Santa Ana College is working with
organizers to inform students and
staff about this issue by using social
media and placing flyers around
campus, while also sending it out
electronically to key faculty.
“We could look at VIN numbers
of some of the Hondas that they’re
looking at so that way we can just
inform our students and inform our
staff members about the impor-
tance of taking their vehicles to the
dealer so that this problem can be
fixed,” Assistant Dean of Student
Services Teresa Mercado-Cota said.
By 2019, nearly 70 million Takata
airbag inflators in approximately 42
million vehicles will be under recall,
according to airbagrecall.com.
The recall includes vehicles made
by 19 different automakers but
Acuras and Hondas pose the most
urgent threat.
You can call the Honda Recall Line
at (844) 758-9245 to schedule a
quick and free repair.

SAC’S DREAMERS DEFY STATE TREND
F
ewer undocumented students in California applied for the
Dream Act this year. In spite of this, Santa Ana College’s
numbers rose. The two-part Dream Act, signed into Cal-
ifornia law in 2011, allows undocumented students who meet
certain criteria to receive financial aid from the state. Under the
act, these students are able to apply for privately-funded schol-
arships at public institutions, as well as Cal Grants and Board of
Governors fee waivers at California community colleges.
This year 414 SAC students applied for
the Dream Act by March 1, a day before
the 2017 deadline. Sli
