In April 2015, about 8 million people watched the season’s first episode, according to Nielsen Media. Daenerys Targaryen Targaryen is a powerful female ruler who doesn’t believe in causing harm to others, and forms strategic alliances to gain the throne. In season one, she let her brother be killed, her husband died, and she hatched the first three dragons in over a century. — Mary Nguyen Tyrion Lannister The returning character is constantly persecuted for his provocative lifestyle, but is clever as a fox in times of crisis. Whether it is jail or death, Lannister learns to out-think his adversaries and overcome obstacles, though his family still blames him for the death of his mother in childbirth. — Jaime Buenaventura LastStand HIS WATCH HAS ENDED The sixth season of HBO’s insanely popular Game Of Thrones kicked off yesterday with the answer to the vexing winter question, is Jon Snow dead or alive? With the assumed death of the bastard son in the final episode of season five, fans and conspiracy theorists have produced troves of rants and think pieces, evidence of how the show has grown beyond cult status. Actress Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, revealed in a red carpet interview at the season premiere in Hollywood April 10 that this season is all about her character exacting revenge on everyone who has wronged her family. In one of TV’s most harrowing scenes, Sansa was brutally raped by a male character, and has been portrayed as a helpless princess waiting to be saved. Girl power will have its way, it seems. Count on Queen Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, to have a much larger role attempting to retake her family’s throne from the usurping Lannisters. The series is slated for two more seasons of cliffhangers, revelations, white walkers and dragons. —Jorge Campos The First Winter What Happens Next The sixth book in George R. R. Martin’s fantasy series A Song Of Ice And Fire, titled The Winds Of Winter, is now set for release January 2017. This marks the first time a TV season has preceded the release of a book for Game of Thrones. Following Jon Snow’s possible death at the end of season five, bloggers speculate that the book may center on Snow’s parental lineage. Now, hardcore fans of the books and show won’t be able to predict the plot based on the book. They’ll have to wait for the next episode like everyone else. Martin, a notoriously slow and meticulous writer, is expected to write seven books total in this series. —Jorge Campos LOYALTY: Season one featured protective pet wolves for XX
