Safety and Security officers will issue citations to cars without an authorized parking pass. The fine costs $45. Student parking permits are $20 for those with the Board of Governors Fee Waiver and $30 for others at the cashier’s office, in room U-218, located in the Johnson Center. Another option is the permits sold at yellow dispensers in every lot for $2 a day. — Joanna Meza The Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees elected new officials for 2016. Claudia Alvarez, who has been on the board since 2012, was elected president. “It’s a privilege to be selected as board president,” said Alvarez in a press release. John Hanna has served on the board since 1998, and was elected vice president. Nelida Mendoza Yanez, a U.S. Army veteran, was elected clerk. The service term for these positions is one year. Previous president Larry Labrado remains on the Board of Trustees, as well as Arianna Barrios, Jose Solorio, Phillip Yarbrough and student trustee Raquel Manriquez. —Joanna Meza Fragments is the new art exhibit now on display at Santa Ana College’s Main Art Gallery. The exhibit features pieces from artists Stanton Hunter, Michael Aschenbrenner, Hilary Baker and Julia Couzens. Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College students and staff may enter at no charge by showing their college ID at the door. The newest feature added to the planetarium’s schedule is Mysteries of the Cosmos, presented by Bob Menn, the planetarium coordinator and program director. The first showing was last Wednesday and it will continue through June 3. “Mysteries of the Cosmos explores a number of profound questions,” Menn said. For the general public, morning shows cost $6 Monday through Saturday.
