Thoughts Thoughts EL DIARIO DEL CISO (THE CISO JOURNAL) Thinking and Working for a Digital Security Leader Thoughts of LSD Why should a #LSD fail? (#DSL/ #DigitalSecLeader) Andrés Ricardo Almanza Junco Fail, failure, fall, stumble, error, mistakes, many of these terms are commonly used, are complex to use either in personal, professional life among others. In the context it is perceived that people have been educated to avoid these situations. Being wrong always makes the ego rumble in the mind and affect both emotionally and professionally. Failure is a constant of life. No one is exempt; no one can prevent it, since in one way or another it will happen in life. Although failing to bother, it is necessary to be able to move forward. In his book Failing Forward by John Maxwell; precisely their central ideas are based on the fact that failure, although it is uncomfortable, is necessary because it paves the way for a deep and consistent success. He argues that whoever is not willing to fail and do it with intention may be losing the opportunity and possibility of achieving long-term success. In order to bring this to the life of a #DSL and his professional performance, we suggest this series of steps that allow the professional to reflect on failure. 1. Define and understand what a failure is and means. In this sense, it is necessary to define and redefine the ideas of success and failure that allow context to be given to the situations that it faces. What is a failure for a #DSL? What is success for a #DSL? a. Some essential features at this point. i. Failure is not lasting. It is temporary, the attitude of failure if it is. ii. The voices. Those who judge and how the internal judgment arrives is the fundamental way that will determine the types of attitudes and frustrations resulting from failure iii. The facts. In failures tends to be absolute and find guiltier than possible solutions. 2. Define success. Knowing what it means and defining what it means to succeed puts context to people and groups of interest. At this point it is important to keep in mind: a. The individual perception of what success is b. The collective perception of what success is c. The games of expectations of what success can become 3. Knowing that failure is learning. Failure to see the learning is to involve the step of the step called loss or error step called learning. It is the window that must be given in order to learn. There are some key points to reformulate learning, rebuild beliefs and knowledge, unlearn practices and relearn stimuli that achieve the achieved goal. They are formulated in terms of the questions: a. What is it that I can learn from this as #DSL? b. What can be done differently for a next time? c. What capabilities can I improve on myself such as #DSL? d. What or what can be the references to observe to see, learn things we do not know? Who can help me? e. What could be the next step that can be taken? f. What or what are the benefits obtained from this experience? g. What or what are the benefits that could occur from this experience? h. What is the worst that can happen at this time? [email protected]
