110 THANK YOU’S
by Andrea Garza
The traditional Christmas basket event had a heartfelt twist when students gave their gift personally to every staff
member.
Every access group, along with many student organiza-
tions, assembled their own package to give to a specific
employee, accompanied by a personalized card with the
names of all of those who contributed to the task. Thanks
to beautifully wrapped boxes and greetings with Christ-
mas carols, every giftee felt appreciated.
Student Council President María Zambrano made a list
and checked it twice to ensure every staff member got
their basket. Zambrano mentioned that after the event,
the workers all gathered together and made their way
home, carpooling in a chain reaction of kindness. “They
were so happy! Especially about the blankets, due to the
incoming cold front.”
Most students began collecting the items well in advance,
proving their dedication while highlighting their teamwork
and responsibility, and leading to more adorned boxes and
all around smiles.
CRACK IS WACK

A play about cocaine took the crown of comedy as skits like this placed humorous twists on serious issues facing the world today
in the Drama Fest 2017.
The plays were written by students of the Play Production class, coached by acting veteran Mr. Segovia, and they raised awareness on topics
like euthanasia and body shaming. In a play designed for an overall appeal, the performances were relatable to young adults and their
parents through a mix of light and heavy entertainment.
Eugenio Díaz displayed his versatility as a performer by playing a sleazy conman, a contrast from his role in the school musical, The Addams
Family.
“Been there, done that,” commented 12th grader Mavy Zambrano as she watched Barbara Martínez’s portrayal of a strict mother pressuring
her on-stage daughter, Andrea Newell, to drop a few pounds for her upcoming Prom.
In his play, Pablo Carrillo proved a weak stomach wasn’t going to stop him from conquering the girl of his dreams. The booming laughter from
the audience demonstrated this performance was a fan favorite.
The Improvisation class also drew giggles as they revealed a semester’s hard
work in creativity and originality. Teams fought for the best grade in the
course through a series of games.
They shared the spotlight with the audience as guest participants were
picked randomly from the crowd to aid their presentation. Whether it was
producing sound effects or giving plot ideas, viewers were always on the
edge of their seats.
As Mr. Segovia said, the success of these final performances was the result of
a semester of tough love. Taking place on December 6th, 7th, and 8th, the
students said goodbye to these electives leaving space for new performers
to take their place in 2018.
