in the winter season (bare trees and shrubs), and each year the cycle starts all over again! We can’t effectively have one without the other.
We too have God’s cycle of life. There are times when He sends or allows rain (tests and trials) to awaken what has gone dormant in our life (our prayer life, a study of the Word).
Then He prepares the soil (our heart) to help us grow. As we grow and feed on His Word we store up a supply of nourishment (wisdom, understanding, knowledge) that will carry us through times when we are dormant. Then the cycle starts all over again, as He chooses, not us!
Our calendars say that spring starts on March 21st, summer on June 21st or 22nd, fall on September 21st, and winter on December 21st. These are dates that man designated, but God really is the determining factor. These seasons; good, bad or indifferent can happen only when He allows it.
To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (KJV)
Be glad then, you children of Zion, And rejoice in the Lord your God; For He has given you the former rain faithfully, And He will cause the rain to come down for you – The former rain, And the latter rain in the first month.
Joel 2:23 (NKJV)
