WHAT DOES BEING AN EITI COMPLIANT COUNTRY MEAN? Being EITI compliant means that a country has a working process for ensuring the required levels of transparency in their natural resource sector. It also means that a country has a platform for discussing how transparency and accountability in the sector should be further improved. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EITI IMPLEMENTATION? The government will benefit from EITI implementation through the adoption of a uniform procedure for reporting of payments and revenues. This will help the government monitor and regulate the extractive industries and provide it with relevant data and information necessary to craft policies. Participation in the EITI will promote transparency among industry players, thus building the public’s trust and confidence. A level playing field within the sector as a result of transparency will make the country more attractive to investors. EITI will aid the civil society in monitoring the industries and push for advocacies on the basis of the information that the EITI report will generate.
