Egypt Editorial
News that Washington has suspended most of its aid to Egypt,
a land in the grip of a dictatorship as brutal as anything the country
has experienced in recent history, is welcome and long overdue.
Almost 2000 people have been killed since former president
mohamed morsi was overthrown last july, and the numbers
grow by the week. There have also been drive by shootings
of soldiers and churches and mosques have been burned.
The US was made the decision to cut aid to Egypt as
long as the military is in power. Meaning all the aid given,
such as tanks, fighter jets and other things, will be taken
for as long as the military stays in control of the country.
And as important as the killings, are the amount of egyptians
leaving the country, most of them not in favour of military rule.
Egypt has been split into loyalists and traitors.
General Sisi may try, but he cannot contain the continued protest against
his takeover. More people will leave, and the protests will
continue until he steps down and stops his military crackdown.
