Burning Churches
Sixty churches have been burned in a wave of terrorist attacks against Christians. The
Muslim brotherhood is responsible for all of these attacks and have also been burning Christians
cars and belongings. The group was recently named a terrorist orginization by Egypt after
agreeing with Saudi Arabia on the decision.
A 24 year old named Miriam Nagi said during cleaning up a church that had been burnt by a
fire,
"The terrorists tried to ruin my church, my home, my people,” Nagi says, using the edge of her
charcoaled sleeve to wipe tears from her eyes. “But God will prevail against the terrorist Muslim
Brothers.” Nagi.
She had been cleaning up the church for eight days and many other attacks have
happened. The brotherhood is targeting the Christian minority in Egypt. They have said to their
followers "to attack Christian homes, shops, schools and churches throughout the country." Just
to worsen the situation, the police won't answer calls for help. At one church one of the fathers
saw an angry mob at his front gates. He called the police but they didn't answer. Eventually a
local Muslim man intervened and stopped the attack. In one week 40 churches have been
burned and looted while at least 23 others have been attacked. The brotherhood is still attacking
other churches and Christians as the situation worsens.
Along with the churches being attacked, also orphanages and boats that Christians owned
are being attacked. The catholic bishop of Luxor has been trapped in his house for 20 days
because of Islamists yelling "death to all Christians." The risk is increasing and some people
think that this matter isn't getting enough attention. Many people are worried about the wellness
of the Christians and want the violence to stop.
