M ONT H I N M I NUT ES RIGHT TO MONTH IN NUMB3RS NEVADA ONLINE POKER IS NO POT OF GOLD MATT PARA LYNX MARKETING GROUP 17% Bwin.party’s yearon-year revenue decline for the three months ended 31 March See news on p14 Using publicly available data from sites such as Pokerscout, Ultimate Poker seems to be losing momentum as the standard bearer for Nevada’s initiatives in the online arena. Its main issue appears to be that it is not acquiring new players at a high enough rate as it rarely breaks 400 concurrent players on the site. As for its marketing initiatives, I know that a lot of people are touting the relationship with the UFC as the main driver of acquisition. However, we tried this while I was with Full Tilt Poker and found while the demographic is the same, UFC a?cionados don’t have the same disposable income as would a person that prefers boxing or horse racing for example.  As for the revenue, the tournament and sit-and-go money is inconsequential as it doesn’t have enough players or high-stakes tourneys to make a difference and that money will only make up around 25% of the daily revenue at most. So I focused on the ring game action and found the following: 1. Around 60% of the games have stakes at or below $0.50/$1; 2. The average pot in $ is ?uctuating but as the only product offered is poker, I am guessing they are seeing more grinders and fewer gamblers; so I think the average rake per player will be around $11 per day; 4. Based on $11 per player you are looking at around $3,850 per day in rake based on an average of 350 unique players on the site. Based on this estimate it is only making between $5-6k a day. In my opinion, that is not really enough when you consider its licence was $500k for the ?rst year. New Jersey will bring richer pickings I'm sure, but so far Nevada is not a tempting model to follow.
