JUNE 8 , 2022 - Eastern Florida State College recently welcomed Laura Moody to its Board of Trustees .
Appointed to service by Governor
Ron DeSantis , Moody is the Chief Legal Counsel for the Brevard County Sheriff ’ s Office and replaces Alan Landman , who served in leadership positions on the board since 2009 .
Moody earned her Bachelor ’ s Degree from Flagler College , a Master ’ s Degree in public administration from the University of Central Florida , and a Law Degree from Florida A & M University .
She joined the Sheriff ’ s Office in 2019 as Legal Counsel after serving as an Assistant State Attorney since 2007 . In that role , Moody functions as in-house counsel for Sheriff Wayne Ivey and his staff .
Moody is responsible for researching and training on legislative and case law updates ; legislative proposals ; litigating asset forfeitures , and risk protection orders ; in addition to other legal matters in which the Sheriff ’ s Office is a party .
She also works with the State Attorney ’ s Office , Judiciary , and other elements of the local criminal justice system , coordinating with outside counsel on special projects .
We are grateful for her service to EFSC and the community .
IN MEMORY OF MYRA IGO HALEY
A longtime Brevard businesswoman and philanthropist , Myra Igo Haley passed away unexpectedly in her Merritt Island home on July 18 . Myra served on the Eastern Florida State College Board of Trustees for three years ( 2011-2014 ), providing insight and leadership to the college ’ s transition from community college to state college , offering four-year degrees for the first time .
“ Myra ’ s passing is a loss to everyone at the college ,” said Dr . Jim Richey , EFSC president . “ She played an important role in the growth of EFSC and was always focused on what was best for students . She was a true public servant whose work greatly benefited higher education and our entire community . Her contribution will never be forgotten .”
The College extends its sympathy to her children and many friends and honors her for her lifetime of service to others .
