Work-Study Program Expands: Creating Pathways for Student Success

Eastern Florida State College’ s Work-Study Program achieved significant growth in 2025, thanks to the proactive efforts of the Financial Aid Office to maximize state and federal funding. By identifying additional resources and streamlining processes, the team opened the door for more students to benefit from meaningful employment opportunities.
The Work-Study Program is a federal financial aid initiative that helps eligible students with demonstrated financial need earn money for college expenses through part-time employment. Rather than applying funds directly to tuition, students receive wages for the hours they work, which can be used for books, housing, and other educational needs.
Positions are available both on and off campus, offering students flexible schedules that accommodate academic commitments while providing valuable work experience. On-campus roles have included assignments in administrative offices, Admissions, Community Engagement, Student Life, EFSC Athletics, Collegewide Communications, Printing and Graphic Design Services, WEFS-TV, and more.

Off-campus partners have also played a vital role, employing students in positions that build job skills and community connections. Among the 2025 partners were Brevard Public Schools( after-school tutoring), The Women’ s Center, Keep Brevard Beautiful, Rock Steady Boxing, Rockledge Christian School, Children’ s Home Society, and the Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind.
Through strategic planning and advocacy, EFSC’ s Financial Aid Office increased Work-Study positions from 73 in 2023 to 218 in 2025— nearly tripling opportunities for students across diverse academic programs. These efforts not only provided financial relief but also created professional experiences that prepare students for success beyond graduation.
“ This achievement reflects the power of strategic resource management and the dedication of our staff to creating pathways for students to thrive,” said College President Dr. Jim Richey.“ The significant increase reinforces the College’ s commitment to student success.”
