FALL TERM WELCOME BACK

The start of the Fall Term saw Dr . Jim Richey welcome back faculty and staff in an Aug . 12 message that focused on meeting the needs of students as the pandemic continued .
Dear Faculty and Staff : I would like to welcome you back to campus as we prepare for the start of the Fall Term on Monday and with it a renewed focus on student success .
The past year has been difficult , and challenges remain as we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic in the form of the Delta variant . But I have every confidence in your proven ability to overcome whatever obstacles may come our way .
Our top priority remains the needs of our students and there are several things we are doing to meet that commitment .
For instance , we continue to offer them important financial support .
Last year , we awarded 9,300 students an average $ 500 in emergency grants through the federal CARES Act to help them pay their bills . In all , $ 5.5 million was provided . We also awarded another round of federal grants to more than 10,600 students in the Spring and Summer terms ranging from $ 250- $ 1,000 . Those grants have totalled $ 7.1 million with additional grants planned for Fall Term students .
We also have a full slate of in-person courses this term , returning to the personalized classroom instruction that many students want and that has always been a hallmark of our college .
Furthermore , we have restructured the areas of Academic and Student Affairs . The changes went into effect July 1 in a move that will allow us to better serve students from admission to graduation .
Another important goal of the change is to make certain our efforts are focused college-wide and not on the four separate campuses of Titusville , Cocoa , Melbourne and Palm Bay .
We believe this approach will greatly benefit students now and in the years ahead .
I ’ m excited about the college ’ s future and the reason is you . Our students and Space Coast community are very fortunate to have you here , and so am I . Together , we can accomplish anything .
Sincerely ,
Dr . Jim Richey , EFSC President
