STUDENTS VACCINATED ON-CAMPUS
More than 160 EFSC students were vaccinated on campus against COVID-19 during three inoculation events , saying they wanted to protect themselves and others from the deadly virus .
• The vaccinations were performed in April , July and October on the Melbourne and Cocoa campuses by the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County with EFSC nursing students helping provide inoculations .
• Among the students getting vaccinated was Camila Chaves who called the free , walk-in process convenient and thanked the college for setting up the site .
• “ I just wanted to try and reduce the amount of COVID and be safe . I have been going to school the last two years and live right across the street so this is wonderful ,” said Chaves .
• Another student , Zachary Armstrong , voiced similar motivations .
• “ I wanted to get the vaccine to protect my dad who is high risk and got his shot this week as well . I just thought I would come in and get it done ,” he said .
• EFSC nursing program students , who had been assisting with vaccinations since February at Jess Parrish Medical Center in Titusville , said they were proud to be participating .
• For nursing student Cory Jordan , the work had special meaning .
• “ This is very personal to me . I lost my grandfather to COVID before the vaccines were available and I hope this helps more people get vaccinated and bring this pandemic to an end ,” she said .
• Students received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines in two-dose treatments .
• The campus vaccinations were part of an effort by health officials to inoculate as many people as possible in Florida where the vaccination rate was lagging .
IN-PERSON , ONLINE CLASS OPTIONS
The college offered a full compliment of in-person and online classes , giving students important options on the best way to learn amid continuing COVID concerns .
• In all , 4,152 in-person classes and 2,202 online classes were taught throughout the year .
• Students continued to gravitate heavily to online classes .
• Of the nearly 19,400 students enrolled in 2021 , 13,815 students , or 71 percent , took at least one online course .
• Including students who enrolled in a hybrid course that is partially in-person and partially online , the number rose to 16,120 , or 83 percent .
• During the Fall Term , 39 percent of students were exclusively online . Before the pandemic , the highest number ever reached was 21 percent fully online .
