ADDRESSING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
The college began the year with strict Covid-19 restrictions in place and few in-person classes , and slowly returned to normal operations in mid-summer as the vaccination rate increased .
However , the college remained vigilant as the highly contagious Delta variant surged . Faculty and staff continued to perform with exceptional dedication whether teaching and working remotely or in-person on campus .
The following section shows key points as EFSC addressed the pandemic .
COVID POLICY PROVES SUCCESSFUL
The college maintained strict safety protocols that led to very low infection rates as employees returned to work on-campus in July , and students and faculty resumed in-person classes in August for the first time since March 2020 .
• The college remained closed for the Spring and Summer Terms with most classes online and only a select number of in-person classes held in areas such as Health Care and Public Safety .
• Starting in the Fall Term , in-person classes resumed with a 6-foot social distancing requirement in place for all classrooms and facilities , setting EFSC apart from many educational institutions .
• Masks and vaccines were not required but strongly encouraged for students in the Fall Term .
• Students and employees were continuously made aware of vaccination availability on-campus and throughout Brevard County via text messages , emails and website announcements .
• The college conducted comprehensive cleaning on all campuses , and acquired significant reserves of masks , gloves , cleaning solution and hand sanitizer .
• A COVID-19 Response Officer was created to immediately respond to and mitigate COVID-19 exposures , with cross-training conducted for all Security Officers .
• On-campus contact tracing led to faster quarantines that reduced additional exposures and the number of people impacted .
• During the peak of the Delta variant outbreak , only 180 positive cases were reported among more than 14,000 students and employees .
• The monthly case-load represented less than 1 percent of the college ’ s total population .
• Only one class was quarantined out of the 1,899 in-person classes offered this Fall .
