Athletic Program Accomplishments WEFS-TV Accomplishments
The college’s athletic teams completed their highly
successful 2016-17 seasons with several teams
nationally ranked, one team making history and four
players named All-Americans. (Student Enrollment,
Diversity Initiatives, Community Awareness) The college’s television station continued showing its
value to market EFSC and its programs to audiences
throughout the Space Coast and Central Florida.

Athletic Highlights:
• The men’s basketball team made school history,
placing second in the NJCAA Division I National
Championship Tournament and finished with a
school record 31 wins.
• The men’s golf team finished third in the nation
after making the national tournament for the 15th
straight season.
• Women’s soccer team made it to the national
tournament for sixth straight season and was the
No. 1 team in the nation for the first two months
of the season.
• Four players were named first team All-American
this season: Women’s soccer players Bunny Shaw
and Darien Davis, Men’s basketball player Kareem
Brewton and Men’s golfer Brad Bawden.
• Hosted the ITA Florida Regional Championships at
the new tennis complex with EFSC winning both
the singles and doubles titles.
• Women’s tennis player Luisa Varon went on to
place second in the ITA National Cup in Arizona.
• Baseball player Sammy Duran made ESPN’s Sports
Center’s Top 10 list with his diving catch during a
televised game this season.
WEFS Highlights:
• Broadcast and livestreamed more than 30 athletic
games, reaching viewers throughout Brevard, the
Central Florida region and foreign countries.
• Produced six videos that play an important role
in student recruitment and marketing efforts,
including video for the Health Sciences Institute
and its programs, Bachelor’s Degree programs,
Workforce programs, Aviation programs, Online
Learning programs and the EFSC Foundation.
• Received $790,000 in grants from the Corporation
of Public Broadcasting and State of Florida for
station operations.
• Hired new Station Manager with 30 years of
experience in public television who is providing
strong leadership in station operations and long-
term planning.
• Upgraded equipment that improved the quality of
TV broadcasts and website livestreaming.
• Added new programming from the National
Education Television Association that reflects the
interests of station viewers.
