DR. JIM RICHEY, PRESIDENT | 2015 LEADERSHIP HIGHLIGHTS January 2015 • Began spring term with 15,534 students. (Student Enrollment, Employee Relations, Trustee Relations, Diversity Initiatives, Public Awareness) • About 800 students enrolled in the new bachelor degree programs for the spring term, further evidence of the need and popularity of the programs. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Employee Relations, Public Awareness) • Began classes in the new Public Safety Institute on the Melbourne campus, starting a new era of public safety education in Brevard and East-Central Florida. (Student Enrollment, Employee Relations, Trustee Relations, Public Awareness) February 2015 • Started “My Graduation Plan for Success (myGPS),” a comprehensive web-based software advising and academic audit tool that helps students and their advisors keep students on track for graduation. (Student Enrollment, Financial Management, Employee Relations) • Received $456,000 grant from the AARP Foundation to implement the “Back to Work 50+: Women’s Economic Stability Initiative” to retrain women age 50 and older as part of national AARP effort to address elder poverty and help seniors find jobs in Brevard County. (Financial Management, Student Enrollment, Employee Relations, Trustee Relations) • Renewed partnership with Space Coast Area Transit that allows students to ride buses free, with students taking about 150,000 bus trips annually, keeping dollars in their pocket and helping reduce their college costs. (Student Enrollment, Financial Management, Community Awareness) • Expanded the use of Google analytics and installed an improved search engine on the college’s website to provide better insight into user behavior and key areas of interest, using the information for enhanced student recruitment and retention efforts. (Student Enrollment, Financial Management) • Hosted the Florida High School Athletic Association Boys and Girls State Soccer Championship Tournament at Titans Soccer Complex with visitors pumping in an estimated $1 million into Brevard economy during the weeklong event. (Financial Management, Public Awareness, Community Relations) • Sponsored annual Dental Health Fair for children using students and faculty from Dental Assisting and Hygiene Programs with the fairs helping more than 600 children receive free dental care in recent years in an example of the college’s community outreach. (Community Relations, Public Awareness) March 2015 • Reorganized the Office of Student Recruitment to improve student recruitment and retention efforts through initiatives including closer cooperation between departments, campus open houses, targeted marketing and public information sessions on new academic programs.
