DR. JIM RICHEY, PRESIDENT | 2013 LEADERSHIP HIGHLIGHTS • Recruited former Brevard County Sheriff Jack Parker as Associate Vice President for Public Safety Institute and Campus Security, bringing the expertise of one of Florida’s most respected law enforcement officials to the college. (Employee Relations, Public Awareness) • Launched Titan Mobile phone app for smart phones and tablets to provide students, faculty and staff with fast access to college information. (Employee Relations, Public Awareness) • BestOnlineCollege.org study showed Eastern Florida’s online criminal justice degree programs are among best in nation, providing students with the accessibility and flexibility they need to learn and graduate. (Student Enrollment, Public Awareness) • S  trong media outreach resulted in Eastern Florida receiving national attention in USA TODAY story that spotlighted our transition to a state college offering four-year degrees as part of growing national trend to meet workforce needs. (Public Awareness, Community Relations) September 2013 • Emphasizing Career Planning and Development Center results in center surpassing landmark 25,000 students served since it opened two years ago, with number reaching nearly 28,000 by end of 2013. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Community Relations) • Won $1.54 million federal grant to help launch new Bachelor Degree programs in Information Technologies in 2014, with money to hire faculty, purchase computers and develop curriculum. (Public Awareness, Financial Management) • Increased fundraising at Eastern Florida State College Foundation resulted in $300,000 Jacques H. Dubois Revocable Living Trust. (Fundraising, Financial Management) • O  pened new soccer field opening on Melbourne campus in first step of plan that includes building tennis courts and softball field to create a sports complex for varsity and intramural programs. (Student Enrollment, Community Relations, Public Awareness) • Other major construction/improvement projects completed throughout the year include: Bochey Baseball Fieldhouse, intramural field, new roof and repainting of King Center, remodeling Building 2 on Melbourne Campus to support academic and student programs, remodeling Building 1 on Cocoa campus to provide space for 4-year degree programs and security, remodeling areas in Building 2 on Cocoa campus for Financial Aid and Registrar’s offices. (Employee Relations, Financial Management) October 2013 • Led highly successful Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) site visit, with SACS officials saying reaccreditation is assured and praising Eastern Florida as “a great institution” that has done an “extraordinary job.” (Employee Relations, Student Enrollment, Public Awareness, Trustee Relations) • SACS leaders also praise college’s “great collaboration, strong focus on students, can-do spirit and culture of enthusiasm.” (Employee Relations, Student Enrollment, Public Awareness)
