Pearls of Wisdom – From the Pages of Guru’s Diary A meeting was under way in conference room with an air of tension flowing across the space. Why not? It was manufacturing HSE meeting where site wide incidents related process upsets were being discussed. Chairperson had been grilling the presenters with probing questions, after all the meeting was about plant and personnel safety. While the meeting was being concluded, our “Operations Guru” shared his thoughts based on three decades of his experience as a Plant Operations professional. Mudassar Y. Rathore (known as Rathore Sahab) has spent his whole career implementing, strategizing and coaching methods known in today’s world as “Operational Excellence” aka OPEX. Considering it the right time to pass on the torch to the upcoming generation, Mudassar conducted a few sessions with the upcoming generation of professionals. The sessions were simple, thought provoking and full of operational wisdom as the presenter summarized his lifelong experience in mere 90 minutes. He talked about simple professional values, implementation of which would help us achieve “Operational Excellence” in its true sense. These inspiring sessions have been a true depiction of how a chemical manufacturing site should behave if the personnel working in it expect to have a trouble fee and safe run for the upcoming era when business scenarios become more challenging. Uneeb Ullah ‘Mens sana in corpore sano’ The importance of this Latin phase, which translates as ‘A healthy mind is found in a healthy body’, cannot be over emphasized. The brilliant minds and creative little angels of Sahara School had no proper playing area. Sahara Welfare Society took the initiative of adding land to the school existing facility and converted it into a playing area. Different sets of swings added to the place have just changed the colors of it. Previously, where there was a barren patch is now the place where there is the sound of students laughing, running around and playing on ‘their’ swings. Rows of students can be seen standing in ques to take the slide, whilst at the other end, once can see them going round and round on the Mary Go Round. The little lessons and memories created from these moments in the playground would help them a long way in their lives.
