SWE, for all the right reasons, is the most hyped and awaited event in the world of Engro. Sports Weekend 2018 was
scheduled to take place from February 23 to 25 but the preparations started months ago.
Leaders announced, teams formed, ideas pouring in, long sports practices, late night rehearsals, jam packed tiring
schedules, multi-tasking at its peak and all minds focused on one goal: BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE.
Finally, the day came and the guests started arriving. They were welcomed by a wonderful performance by Engro
Grammar School kids followed by the fancy medieval themed Hi-Tea at Bhutta Corner.
Sports Weekend officially kicked off with the awe-inspiring Opening Ceremony. From the arena to the performances,
everything was simply breathtaking. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the unique torch lightning sequence and the
fireworks. Right after the Opening Ceremony, the executives and their better halves rolled up their sleeves for the very
competitive rounds of executive games. DHK had an ideal start taking the lead with executive games. Cheering DHK
and hopeful ROW squads ended the day with scrumptious food at Gawaal Mandi.
Day 2 was the most happening day having the maximum number of sports. The day started with the stylish
Hollywood themed breakfast and the squads moved to the Community Ground for Softball. Softball has always been
the most practiced sport in SWE and both the teams were surely in great form. After an extremely thrilling encounter
and some huge homers, DHK won increasing the lead further. The squads after playing a long match under the sun
treated themselves to the mouthwatering dishes straight from the land of Pyramids.
The throwball squads got done with their food and rushed to the court for an intense match. The supporters utilized
everything that could produce any sort of sound to show their enthusiasm. Throwball also went to DHK. In the
meanwhile nail-biting contests of bridge and snooker were under way which resulted in account opening points for
ROW with their perfect snooker shots but DHK kept adding points to their lead, this time with Bridge. Squash, after an
excting duel, resulted in a draw. DHK outplayed ROW in Tennis winning both the matches. In Table Tennis, ROW
succeeded in snatching some more points. The last sport of the day was Football and what an amazing fixture it
turned out to be. It could not get any more exciting as both the teams went all in to steal these all important points.
DHK succeeded in maintaining the lead at the end of Day 2. Delicious African Food with mind blowing fire performance
awaited the guests at Oasis Park. Filled stomachs moved to the Local Talent Show which was a feast for the eyes. Be
it the skits, the videos, the dance performances or the satire, the audience was absolutely awestruck.
Day 3 started with the classy Santorini Breakfast followed by the long awaited cricket match. DHK’s strong hitters and
fierce bowlers brought the points home after a tough battle with equally capable ROW team. ROW snatched some
more points by winning the battle of words in Scrabble but DHK countered that with their perfect aim at target in Darts
and Carom. Intense competition in Chess resulted in equal points for both teams. Appetizing food with the romantic
ambience of Paris awaited the guests at Poolside. The volleyball players tightened their shoes and rushed to the court
for a fixture that will be remembered for a long time. The best of five series was decided in the 5th match in favor of
ROW after multiple deuces.
ROW made a good comeback with Volleyball and badminton which was the final sport of SWE but DHK had already
done the damage with a huge lead making DHK the proud and well deserved winners of SWE-18.
To mark the end of SWE, there was the grandiose Mughal themed Gala Dinner. Men with their dapper sherwanis and
the women with their elegant Mughlai attire added to the beauty of the resplendent décor. The MEX awards were
presented followed by the MVP awards and the gorgeous SWE trophy. DHK Captain, Hamid Anjum, lifted the trophy
with the audience roaring in the background.
Engronians danced the night away with Ali Zafar and Rachel Viccaji and made some final memories of SWE-18. The
guests left the next day after the aesthetically arranged story book brunch.
SWE-18 was filled with numerous memorable moments that Engronians will cherish forever. SWE-18 has once again
proven that Daharkian’s have no match when it comes to hospitality and making their guests feel special. SWE-18
strengthened friendships and provided an opportunity to demonstrate the true Engro Spirit.
Daharkians achieved what they committed: “BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE”
