DANCING FOR MACMILLAN
by Phoebe Chang
WE ARE MACMILLAN,
CANCER SUPPORT.
That’s the familiar slogan from the
honorable charity that care for anyone
who is suffering from cancer. They not
only offer the comfort help to those who
have questions about all kinds of cancer
diseases, but also financial support them.
Macmillan holds hundreds of events in
different forms every year just to raise
money for those in need. Their love is
undeniable. Moreover, they provide us
with a great opportunity to dedicate
ourselves to people who are struggling.
Then, it was time for everyone. It’s
surprising that a person who sits in a
wheel chair are able to use so much
strength while instructing about a hundred
people to dance together. What’s more
unexpected was that a talented young
man who was also a patient sang the first
few songs for us, that was unbelievably
beautiful. Noticing that the smiles on
everybody’s faces were pure and sweet,
just some innocent kids who know nothing
but love. At that moment, everything was
joyful, calm, and sincere.
A wheelchair dance started the marathon
that Wendy and the Vietnamese student,
Anh were luckily picked to join. They
shared a lovely dance with patients
who suffer in wheel chairs because of
illnesses. The steps weren’t hard but
complex. Moving along with the music,
all we can see in every step was nothing
but love.
Since this was a marathon, we danced
non-stop for four hours. Different
instructors were introduced and each of
them had diverse styles. However, the
main theme was Rumba, in other words,
most of the dance were passionate.
“There’s nothing to be embarrassed
about, because everyone was too busy
to follow up the moves themselves. I
might not be perfect, yet I tried my best
to break a sweat.” That’s the reflection
from students who participated. Overall,
we all danced for only one reason: We
are Macmillan, Cancer support. We care,
we love, we dedicate.
