Educators Teaching Experience | Page 11

I did notice when a female teacher was standing next to Trevor, he got uncomfortable. I asked him if he had any siblings. He said he just had brothers. So I think he isn’t comfortable with females because he isn’t really around them outside of school. Uncomfortable 4/30 (14:45) When Mrs. Hagen touched Trevor’s back, he got tense and kind of moved back a little bit. Uncomfortable 5/2 (30:00) When Mrs. Hagen was talking about different genetic characteristics that each person has, she mentioned the hitch hikers thumb as a characteristic. Each of the students held up their thumbs to see who had one. Trevor held up his with pride. He became proud of the fact that his thumb is different than a lot of people’s thumbs. Uniqueness 5/2 (56:07) He didn’t say much about his family genes. It could be because he doesn’t really know, or he just didn’t want to say anything about it. Private 5/5 (4:35) Trevor raised his hand after everybody else did. Maybe because he didn’t want to seem different because he really did consider himself lucky and didn’t want to be the only one that did. “Different” 5/16 (:55) During the last few days of class, I have noticed how hard Trevor works. He is intrinically motivated. When he was asked to go to the computers, he automatically took charge of his project and became his own teacher. He knows a lot about technology but he also did learn how to do some things on powerpoint. He is an open minded boy. He did help a George out a little bit too. From the beginning of this experience to the end, I did see some progress with Trevor. I think he was able to trust us a little more and he opened up. He is still a quiet person and it just might be his personality, but he is a hard worker and very task oriented. He likes visual things. They help him learn more than linguistic learning. He is a very independent worker. He will get his assignment and start working on it by himself. I don’t think he likes group work maybe because he fears he will seem “stupid” which is normal at this age. He is a very smart boy and has a lot of potential.
