Case Study
When I first met the students, I was first taken
back by how small the class was, but I was also
surprised at the wide variety of personalities
that were in the classroom because of the size
of the class. I don’t remember much from the
first day of the class because I was in a new
environment and didn’t quite know what I was
doing. I did, however, take interest in George
and Trevor because of the way they presented
themselves. Trevor is a very reserved student
and to me that means they have a lot to say but
they just don’t. There could be many factors as
to why they don’t say anything and I wanted to
know why. With George, he looked like he was
uncertain about this whole school thing. I
decided to go with Trevor because he would
push me to think a little more and I honestly,
wanted to see if I could get him to open up a
little bit, of course, with the help of the other
teachers.
On that first day, I observed Trevor reading the
notes from the envelopes and saw that he was
a little slower at reading cursive, but that could
just be the poor or lack of teaching it to him. It
seems to be a theme in schools now. When
Mrs. Smith asked the students to write down
the definition they had just read, Trevor took
the paper out to reread the definition.
There were two instances that I was able to see
in the first lesson that made me assume Trevor
was a visual learner. One was with the video
that was being shown to the class and the other
is with the pictures that were being used.

I noticed that Trevor collects his thoughts
before he comes up with an answer to the
question that was asked to him. He shrugs his
shoulders and says “I don’t know” before he
answers.

The class was asked to go to the computers and
do a little research. Before deciding which
website to go to, Trevor read the excerpts that
are given on Google and was able to decide
which one he thought would give him the most
accurate answers. To me this shows that he is
careful about what he reads and wants to put in
his assignments.

During my lesson, Trevor just started working
on the color wheel. He worked by himself and
didn’t ask many questions about it.
