AND 2 Case Study, Data Collection, Interviews and Observations 1.
Measurement is the assignment of numbers to characteristics (or
attributes) of
objects according to a pre-specified set of rules. Describe the object
and
characteristics of Syafiq‘s study.
Our textbook states that objects can include persons while
characteristics of objects can
include arousal-seeking tendencies, achievement motivation,
shopping enjoyment, service
quality and more (Bougie & Sekaran, 2013). Based on this
definition, it is safe to conclude that
in this study, the objects are the people and the characteristics are the
tendency, motivation,
service experience; In other words, satisfaction of the end-users that
are visiting the website.
2. The measurement of more abstract and subjective characteristics
(or attributes such for instance the attributes in Syafiq‘s study) is more
difficult than the
measurement of other, more tangible attributes such as weight, length,
gender, age, and
marital status. Why is that?
I believe the reason why measuring more abstract and subjective
characteristics is more difficult
that measuring other tangible attributes is because the participants of
the study can be easily
affected by other sources that would ultimately alter their opinions of
abstract characteristics to
the study, causing their opinions to be immeasurable and the data
being unusable towards the
study. For instance, different interviewers asking the same question
on the same participant
might result in different opinions in the end because of the way the
question is asked. On the
other hand, tangible attributes such as gender, age, and marital status
