FROM THE EDITOR IN CHIEF
Dear Spartans,
On behalf of The Spartan Echo Newspaper, I would like to extend a warm welcome back to campus! This digital issue recaps some of the recent highlights across Spartan Nation as we begin the 2025 – 2026 academic year.
This year is especially exciting as our beloved University prepares to celebrate 90 years of excellence! The semester has already started with major momentum— from Norfolk State being featured on a national stage with ESPN’ s First Take, to our first home win against Virginia State, and so much more.
For those who may not know me, my name is A’ lauren Gilchrist, a senior studying journalism here at NSU. Since stepping into the role of Editor-in-Chief, I’ ve had the privilege of leading our return to print after seven years, revitalizing our website( spartanecho. org), and strengthening our presence on social media.
The Spartan Echo has so much more in store. If you’ ve been waiting for our next print edition, the wait is almost over! Our upcoming printed issue will spotlight Norfolk State’ s 90th anniversary and explore how our institution continues to rise and move forward. Stay tuned— and in the meantime, enjoy these digital highlights.
Lastly, I proudly dedicate this issue to Leon Carter, who was recently inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists’ Hall of Fame this past summer at the NABJ National Convention.
With Spartan Pride,
A’ lauren Gilchrist
