Ashwin Ganpudi (a Chennaite doing a PhD in Molecular Biology at The University of Edinburgh) Natural Variation The sun shines in all its spectacular glory, With the passing clouds misting the colourful lory And there I sit leaning against the coarse bark With filtered light duly paving the lark The carpet I lay is as verdant as ever And in a distant I hear the rains simmer I later noticed those seedlings emerge Fighting against the soil crust in-order to surge The nested birds chirp out high Until their mother hears them cry And down there are the slugs and worms slithering by Scampering for protection from a passer-by Survival in general is hard within And that I realise is how nature begins The Shaded Her And there she was, shimmering under the silver slick That infectious aura beaming to draw a flick Her skin soft and supple with that subtle radiance Trajecting my inner self in an outward covariance In the breeze, her dark hair scuffles And with some hope I raise my ruffle She continued to gaze upwards being still And I just watched to be contained and not prilled The darkness sets in deeper than ever before And she just stood there like seen never before 55
