Kirst, a professor emeritus with Stanford University, served two terms as president of the State Board of Education. His first term was 1975-82, and then again in 2011 to this year. Before joining the Stanford faculty, Kirst served in a number of roles with the federal government, including a position as Director of Program Planning BO CBO training sequence in San Luis Obispo. Academies are designed and delivered by ACSA members for ACSA members. Participants meet academy directors who are expert practitioners in their fields who know first-hand the issues and challenges, along with the intangible rewards, that are part of leadership in the service of improv- ing outcomes and potential for students. A faculty of academy presenters bring their expertise, passion and experience to pay it forward to academy participants as the next generation of leaders. Academy learners receive invaluable materials and resources curated by academy presenters and directors. And, their profes- sional network will expand immeasurably through active participation and contribu- tion to the academy experience. The next California governor will appoint a new SBE president and fill any vacant positions on the board.
