Finalist - Helen Ruddell Helen Ruddell ’ s career in economic development has spanned over 30 years in both the finance industry and local government . Her extensive experience includes leading and developing Economic Development teams across Yarra City , Knox City , City of Monash , and Yarra Ranges Councils .
Helen , in her current role as the Manager for Economic Development and Investment at Yarra Ranges Council , skilfully leads and manages a dedicated team responsible
for delivering exceptional services that drive economic development , tourism , investment , job creation , and community well-being . Her oversight extends to 55 townships and suburbs within the region .
Helen ’ s vision has ensured that the Yarra Ranges has delivered a tier 1 , Council endorsed , and contemporary strategy committed to a resilient , regenerative , and thriving future economy .
Helen ’ s commitment to collaboration is evidenced by her work with Box Hill Institute in Lilydale to develop an Innovation & Incubator Hub , and a partnership with the Yarra Ranges Enterprise Centre , which has fostered the growth of startups and innovative businesses in the area .
A true collaborator , Helen has established Business Leader Roundtables and supported the success of local business and trader groups . Following a devastating storm event in 2021 , Helen ’ s methodical and agile approach provided businesses with the confidence that Yarra Ranges Council was there to support them to recover and rebuild for a sustainable future .
Helen ’ s impact extends beyond economic development as she holds Director positions on NFP Boards championing the prevention of violence against women and Community Health .
Beyond her professional endeavours , Helen is deeply passionate about inclusivity and accessibility . Motivated by this passion , she has voluntarily taken on a committee role with Special Olympics Australia .
