ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT QUARTERLY FINALIST The Regional Industry Sector Employment program (RISE) is a collaborative employment model designed to tackle youth unemployment, place-based disadvantage and a shortage of apprentices entering the local construction sector. CITY OF KALGOORLIE-BOULDER Dig a Little Deeper – Discover the real Kalgoorlie- Boulder Across Australia, Kalgoorlie-Boulder is renowned as a Wild West mining town with a work-hard, play- harder mentality. Challenged with a decreasing population and increasing fly-in-fly-out workforces, it was evident that Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s image needed a serious overhaul. The campaign to flip these negative perceptions encouraged audiences to “Dig a little Deeper”. Delivered over multiple local and state-wide media platforms, the campaign has achieved over 1.4 million engagements, built a strong regional brand and repositioned Kalgoorlie-Boulder as a modern, dynamic and sophisticated regional centre – the ideal location to live, work and invest. RISE is led by the City of Greater Geelong and supported by local employment solutions provider, Gforce Community Fund. The RISE program prepares and supports work-ready employees who can be matched with local construction industry apprenticeships. Through its responsive design, RISE is meeting the specific needs of participants and the construction industry and is fast becoming a key solution to develop and connect apprentices with the local construction sector. www.ckb.wa.gov.au/ www.ckb.wa.gov.au/In-My-Community/Dig-a- Little-Deeper COMMUNITY COLLABORATION IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT This award recognises economic development with community at its centre.
