Using circular economy principles, Quilpie Wellspring provides a vision for new micro-enterprises clustered on a 3.9 ha site in the heart of Quilpie. The project is expected to deliver 37 new residents which would reduce population decline by 25%. Entrants were required to demonstrate that there has been an enhanced economic revitalisation of a region or industry by taking a partnership approach. WINNER SUSTAINABLE AUSTRALIA FUND The Better Business Finance initiative Better Building Finance informs and helps Councils access the opportunities for increased economic, employment and environmental outcomes through Environmental Upgrade Finance (EUF). This program opens up private investment in local businesses and helps them achieve savings and become more sustainable. It’s a powerful example of how a public-private partnership can have significant economic and environmental impacts. The City of Melbourne established the EUF program in 2010 and its success led to 2015 legislation that allowed all Victorian Councils to offer EUF to their business community. As an open market platform, the Building Better Finance Initiative can support projects funded by all lenders participating in the program. www.sustainableaustraliafund.com.au/ FINALIST CITY OF PROSPECT Connected Cities - Sensor Network Connected Cities is a South Australian metropolitan- wide sensor network. It has been developed by five councils and the University of Adelaide, with funding from the Commonwealth Smart Cities and Suburbs Program. It consists of ten LoRaWAN gateways. There has also been strong collaboration with The Things Network (TTN). With the rollout of the network complete, stage 2 is now underway and will cover the majority of metropolitan Adelaide with another seven Councils.
