Quilpie Wellspring
Quilpie Wellspring is a bold regional economic
development initiative commissioned by Quilpie
Shire Council in response to the challenge of
remote regional economic development in Outback
Queensland.
Using circular economy principles, Quilpie Wellspring
provides a vision for new micro-enterprises clustered
on a 3.9 ha site in the heart of Quilpie.
The project is expected to deliver 37 new residents
which would reduce population decline by 25%. The
project vision is that Quilpie Wellspring will provide
a hub for rural and remote communities to learn
and share the latest micro-enterprise thinking and
technology through practical application specifically
tailored for Outback Australia.

The Better Business Finance initiative
Better Building Finance informs and helps Councils
access the opportunities for increased economic,
employment and environmental outcomes through
Environmental Upgrade Finance (EUF).
This program opens up private investment in local
businesses and helps them achieve savings and
become more sustainable. It’s a powerful example
of how a public-private partnership can have
significant economic and environmental impacts.
The City of
Melbourne
established the EUF
program in 2010 and
its success led to
2015 legislation that
allowed all Victorian
Councils to offer
EUF to their
business community.
As an open market
platform, the
Building Better
Finance Initiative
can support projects funded by all lenders
participating in the program.
