Undetermined
By Rebecca Doherty
Brilliant, broiling sun beating down,
Ruddy, rosy cheeks, flushed with anticipation;
Recent rains conspire to create
Cool mud, sticking underfoot.
Chartreuse spikelets comingle with verdant shoots,
All prickly against exposed legs.
Finally
Wet, craggy, coarse rocks on which to dwell…
Fond memories abound –
Hiking, fishing, exploring with child-like wonder
In days long past.
Earth is ever-changing, evolving –
Existence is fleeting,
Yet Nature is strong, resilient, bold.
Nature withstands, Nature overcomes.
By happenstance,
We arrive here, now.
