Karter’s mother and father had died because of inhaling too much smog, because then, there was no oxygen bottles, but his aunt and uncle stayed alive and they took care of him for 7 years. “Auntie Jane? Where are you? I was wondering if I could paint my room a…um…different colour maybe?” Karter said quickly. “No! I’ve told you almost 35 times now! You’ve got us to paint the door, one of the most illegal colours, we don’t need more ways to get into trouble, I don’t even understand why you would want to paint the front door! …why not just your bedroom door?” Auntie Jane said irritably. “Because then it wouldn’t show that we dislike the laws of no colours or any living object except pets and us, on the island!” Karter said vigorously. “Well, I’m fine with the laws, we have our share of oxygen, we just need to get used to the fact that we can’t have colours in or around our homes…” Auntie Jane said. “That’s so stupid, there is no problem with living in a house that has at least a few colours!” Karter said. “Well, don’t come to me when the police come to our house asking why our house is the colour of the rainbow…” “You know I really wonder why they would even need to make these stupid laws, what’s the poin- Karter notices that Auntie Jane’s face suddenly turned pale, ghostly pale. She was staring at the window. “What is it?” Karter turns to the window and froze. A man was in the window, a man that looked about Auntie Jane’s age. The man was dressed in a torn coat and had no oxygen mask with him. He wore a brown hat and had greasy black hair, and was staring right through Auntie Jane’s eyes. As if she wasn’t even there. And suddenly he lifted his arm, and pointed to Karter. “Bring him” The man said. And suddenly, Auntie Jane fainted.
