Renewable energy is becoming more and more a subject of global interest, since
man's neglect of the state of the environment has never been more prominent. We are
at the point where we are
jeopardizing the whole
planet,
by
keeping
conventional methods
of obtaining electricity,
such as burning fossil
fuels. That is why I
welcome and
encourage the
initiatives for obtaining
electric and thermal
energy by means of
clean
and
technologies
methods,
which
have as a priority the protection of the environment.
The Americans have put into operation the largest solar power plant in the world,
namely the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System. It is located on the border of the
states of California and Nevada, it is the largest solar power generation system in the
world. It covers 8 square kilometers in the Mohave desert in Carson City and was opened on
February 6 this year, after years of testing, technical problems and legal issues related
to the protection of flora and fauna. This project shows that the renewable energy
system bypasses the emission of greenhouse gases and encourages energy
innovations while creating new jobs. The entire project required a $ 2.2 billion
investment from Google, NRG Energy and BrightSource Energy. About 400
megawatts of energy are produced in the thermal power plant, enough to supply
140,000 homes. Is this America's biggest step towards the green energy industry? It
