Energy sources has been very important in historical
process especially in industrialization and manufacture
periods.
Presenting sufficient, clean, of good quality and punctual
energy is an important development level of a country.
Nowadays, demand for energy is increasing in return
fossil fuel sources are decreasing.
In near future, depletion of sources due to environmental
problems obligated to achieve sustainable development,
this is understood in nation-international and individual
level.
Windy Energy
İzmir is the city with one of the highest potential among the cities that can produce
electricity by using the wind energy regarding Turkey’s Wind Energy Potential Atlas.
Izmir has a great potential in terms of geothermal energy. The regions that has
geothermal sources are: Seferihisar (Karakoç, Doğanbey, Cumalı and Tuzla), Balçova-
Narlıdere, Dikili (Kaynarca, Bademli, Mud Spas, Nebiler, Kocaoba), Bergama (Beauty Spa,
Dübek, Paşa Ilıcası-Allianoi), Çeşme (Ilıca, Alaçatı,
Şifne…) The geothermal energy potential of Izmir is
mostly used in residential heating. The geothermal
greenhouse heating system is another area where
geothermal energy is used. Nonetheless, there is no
geothermal electric plant established in Izmir.
The total potential of residential heating corresponds
to 212.000 houses however, only 11% of this
potential is used and only 3% of the greenhouse
heating potential which is about 19.000.000 m 2 . The
diversity of geothermal heating sources in the region
allows the expansion of the use.
