Balancing Work and School

Hey there readers and welcome back to Hustle & Hack.

It’s August, and that means three things:

1. Summer is nearly over. *sad face*

2. Mid-day naps are coming to an end.

3. School is right around the corner.

No student dreams of the day when summer ends, and school starts back up. BUT, it’s an inevitable outcome, and the grind of balancing work and school picks back up.

For me, being a #girlboss feels like it’s in my blood, so I’m kind of excited to re-organize my life, as weird as that sounds. The feeling of a brand-new planner, with the crisp pages, sticky notes, and pens that I "borrowed" from my mom, is a feeling like no other, for us weirdos out here.

Being a total workaholic while having to go back to high school is a combination that I’ve been learning to deal with for well, three years now.

My freshman year, I started my creative media company, Adeline Rock Media. I focus on building brands with social media management and promotional videos in Austin. It’s been such a journey, and with the lessons I’ve learned along the way, I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

However, going to school has also been a huge weight on my shoulders, and takes up a lot of my time as well. Now I’m a senior and college is right around the corner! So it’s double the school work plus my business.

I have managed, though, to find the perfect balance between work and school, and am going to share a few tips with you!

1. Find the best planner.

Well, what do I mean by “best” planner? What kind of standards comes with that title?

I’ll tell you.

You have to find a planner that has a hard cover, so the outside looks great at all times. I figure that if the outside of the planner looks amazing and wrinkle free, then the craziness inside doesn’t matter when it comes to aesthetics!

The planner also has to be color or symbol coded. I literally cannot function if all of my meetings and homework are the same color. It’s just so much easier to quickly separate the pages when my meetings/shoots are in blue, and my school-related things are pink.

Finally, you have to have enough space to write! I have seen too many planners that have a box to write in that can barely fit a quarter. It drives me crazy. You need to be able to edit, reorganize, or add more!
