A simple but revealing
exercise for students
• Ask students to brainstorm a list: WHO writes/
publishes online? Journalists, bloggers, pundits,
businesses, universities, governments, scientists,
fans/hobbyists, politicians, religious groups, the
famous, the anonymous, etc.
• A second brainstorming session: WHY are these
writers writing/publishing ?
• Let students rank the reliability of these writers, as
well as their reasons for writing. Lively discussions
follow this exercise, and there is no single right
answer.
