Students’ prior knowledge is activated by asking “What do we see in the sky on a clear day
during the day and night?”. They talk about the colors and shapes of the objects they see in the
sky.
Explore
Schoolyard is visited with the students. They are asked to observe the sky. The damages that
may result in looking at the Sun with bare eyes are mentioned. Students are asked to observe
the sky at night as well.
Explain
Students represent their observation results. They are told how the information about the Sun,
the Earth, the Moon and the stars was reached. Cartoons about Al-Biruni and Galileo is
watched. Short pieces of information are given about the Sun, the Earth, the Moon and the
stars. They are asked to draw what they see on the sky. The Earth picture is colored by using
Quiver.
Elaborate
Geometrical shapes are introduced. Numbers of sides and corners are told. The Sun, the Earth,
the Moon and the stars are observed by using Solar Walk Lite App. The similarities and
differences between the shapes of the Sun, the Earth, the Moon and the stars are identified. A
pattern is formed by using the Sun, the Earth, the Moon and the stars and its rule is expressed.
Students find the element that should be put in the blank space.
Evaluate
Students’ product design process in groups is observed and evaluated by using formative
assessment form.
