WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 13/26 28th August 2013 Kia ora A huge thank you to parents and whanau who supported our school happenings last week. What a week it was!! The zoo, a group visited the Landlyst Road Language Academy and Cluster Sevens Sport. Boredom has to be a choice at our school!! Congratulations yet again to our rugby team. Another win under your belt, we wish you well at your next challenge. A number of students are organizing their Waihi’s Got Talent performance at the Waihi Beach RSA. Entries close this Friday. The Talent Show is a great family evening. Consider adding this to your diary. My time in Hamilton was AMAZING! Firstly, congratulations from the Ministry of Education for your support/initiatives at school. I was able to share whanau impact on student achievement. They were very impressed and have written up our story to share with others. Another great session was visiting Te Rapa School, four time winners of Top Hamilton School in the past five years. I am looking forward to working with the Te Rapa Leadership Team on the 9th of September, shadowing, questioning and developing my leadership capabilities. Daffodil Day is a very important fundraiser at Waihi East School. A number of our whanau have had a brush with cancer. Please show your support by making a generous donation at this Friday’s mufti day. All money raised supports the new Zealand Cancer Society. Please bring your sponsor sheets back to the school office as soon as possible. ASSEMBLY Remember, assembly is every fortnight under the shade area. Assembly this week is being presented by Rooms 2 & 5. NO assembly next week. DAFFODIL DAY COLOURING COMP This year daffodil day falls on 30th August. The ANZ is running a colouring competition. All entries were delivered to the ANZ Waihi Branch yesterday Tuesday 27th August and will be judged today Wednesday 28th by the local Paper Plus. The winner will receive $50 worth of prizes from Paper Plus. We are holding a mufti day this Friday 30th August for the Cancer Society. Gold coin donation. CALENDARS Students are creating art work for calendars again this year. Order forms have gone out today with the newsletter. If you would like to order some calendars please send the order form and money to school before September 20th. Calendars will be back in next term. AGRICULTURAL DAY/CALF CLUB If anyone is going to have a calf, lamb or goat for this years calf club, please see Mrs Steele so she can register you and your animal. Alan Scott has contacts for goats if your child would like to enter one. Calf club will be held in term 4. see www.calfclub.co.nz for how to select, rear and train a calf for calf club. SANDWICH RACE Be ready for the interclass Sandwich race. All next week aim to have a sandwich in your lunchbox to help your class win the race. (pita and wraps count as a sandwich too). PIT RIM FUN RUN/WALK There will be a meeting next Monday 2nd September at 2pm in the office to start discussing the Pit Rim fundraiser for 2013. Help is needed. Please bring all your ideas. All welcome. SEVENS SPORTS Congratulations to Mr Gurnick and both the rugby 7’s teams who have qualified for the North cluster competition to be held at Waihi on 18th September. SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB Issue No. 5 closed last week . All orders will be back at school next week. WHANGAMATA RUN/WALK FESTIVAL The run/walk festival is on this Saturday 31st August in Whangamata. Bootcampers are running in this but it is open to everyone. Contact Michelle Tai if you & your family are interested. Bring a picnic. SAUSAGE SIZZLE We have five students( Dylan L, Bradley R, Crystal D-M, Nikita T and Connor T) heading to the New Zealand National tournament for Inline hockey in the September holidays. To help them with their costs getting to New Plymouth they are holding a sausage sizzle and selling juices at lunchtime on Friday 6th September. Sausages are $2. Juicies are $1.
