LETTER FROM THE TEACHING PROFESSIONAL
The next piece of technology that I personally use on the lesson tee and for tuning up my own swing is SportsBox AI . The SportsBox AI is an app that uses a slow-motion video of the golf swing , which is a 2D representation of the swing , and we can take that video and analyze it in 3D space . Meaning we can look at any angle , above , below , behind , in front , and it will measure in degrees body movements , and when analyzing the swing it can help capture moments and set parameters to isolate a certain area of the body to measure the movement . It is helpful to understand when we are hitting the ball well , we can save that moment and time , and refer to the numbers and compare the difference when we are not hitting the ball so well . It is great tool to get your swing back on track .
The last piece of technology we are going to look at is force plates . Very simply force plates measure the amount of force that is put into the ground , and also the type of force . These plates are useful for working on speed , power , and kinematic sequencing . The force plates will measure the type of forces , ( rotational , lateral , vertical ) that are input into the golf swing , as well when the forces are turned into output . The feedback usually comes in the form of a graph , that looks has a curve to it , top of swing usually has the most force that is going into the swing , and in the downswing it measures the ground reaction force . These plates can range anywhere from $ 400 to $ 40,000 . The major brands would Swing Catalyst , Smart2Move , and Motus .
So as technology evolves and moves forward it be very helpful as it relates to feedback for our golf swings . It provides all kinds of different feedback in different areas , and can help elevate your game and golf swing to new places . They are valuable tools , but as they say it is all about having the right tool for the job , sometimes a simple alignment stick can provide the necessary feedback . So as all this technology comes out and onto driving ranges , we are all still waiting for technology to catch up to our swing speeds . I hope you all have a great month of November , and hope you hit ‘ em straight !
