LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
This summer has been a challenging one here at Eaglebrooke . The record setting temperatures and rain have made the bermudagrass grow vigorously the past month and some weeks it is all we can do to keep it maintained . The dog days of summer are here !
August is the month where we just do our best to try and stay ahead of our mowing schedule . We have had some equipment issues that our new mechanic , John Jordan , is working through . It is not easy this time of year and keeping everything running properly is more than a full-time job . John has stepped up and done a good job of keeping our heads above water and will continue to improve as he gains more knowledge of the golf course equipment .
The summer months also bring mole crickets to the bermudagrass . These pesky critters are a superintendent ’ s arch nemesis . We applied a broad scale insecticide in late May to help control the new hatchlings . We will have to reapply insecticide as needed in certain areas to keep the adults in check . It is an ongoing process throughout the summer to control the fly in crickets we get from neighboring properties . This is what also causes the sandhill cranes to damage some of the greens in search of a meal . We will stay on top of our insecticide applications to limit the damage and keep a smooth putting surface .
Lastly , I would like to thank our assistant superintendent Rex Light , for his hard work on the # 7 greenside bunker project . It has held up nicely to the heavy thunderstorms we have had so far . Rex took great leadership in completing the project and ensured the drainage would work properly . We wanted to improve the area and maintain the integrity of the hole , and I think we accomplished that .
