With warmer weather on the horizon , we ’ re finally starting to see some growth and recovery in the worn areas of the golf course . In late February , we applied our first full-coverage fertilizer with pre-emergent for the season . This application will help prevent many of the weeds we typically struggle with from sprouting throughout the spring . These weeds have become increasingly resistant to some of the products we use , so I ’ ve been rotating treatments to prevent them from building up a tolerance . So far , most are still responding well to our treatment plan .
We ’ ve also made great progress with the finer details on the course . We trimmed a number of trees in key areas to improve sunlight exposure and air movement . Notably , we removed two medium-sized oak trees near the # 12 tees to open up the area and reduce the root issues golfers encounter when exiting their carts . Additionally , we cut the large viburnum hedge along hole # 18 in half , which will significantly enhance light and air circulation along that hole , benefiting the tees and the left-side cart access points . Some areas may look a bit sparse right now , but these trees and hedges will fill out over the season . This will allow us to use better pruning techniques for improved shape and growth moving forward .
We ’ re also gearing up for some major improvements on the course in the coming months . We ’ re in the final planning stages of the upcoming greens renovation , and I ’ m working closely with our contractors to ensure a smooth process . In mid-March , I ’ ll begin spraying out the existing greens , with two applications spaced two weeks apart . This approach will thoroughly eliminate the current turf before the renovation begins . While it may be unusual to play on dead , brown greens during the last few weeks of March , my goal is to keep them as smooth as possible – and they ’ ll definitely be FAST !
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work to enhance your golfing experience . We ’ re excited about the upcoming improvements and look forward to seeing you out on the course !
