Welcome to the New Year 2025 ! This will be an exciting year for the club as we have numerous renovations and upgrades planned for the summer . I ’ m eager to get things underway as we fine-tune the details of the greens renovation and our list of in-house projects . My goal is to ensure we ’ re ready for any challenges that come our way .
January is typically a slower time for golf course maintenance . We ’ ve reduced mowing frequencies , cutting tees , collars , and fairways just once a week and rough mowing to almost once per month . However , greens continue to be either mowed or rolled daily . These adjustments free up labor , allowing us to focus more on bunkers , landscape beds , and other course details . Significant progress has been made on repairing bunkers throughout the course , and this work will continue until our closure in April . Additionally , we ’ re working on cleaning up landscape beds and trimming back the wood lines along the edges of the property .
From an agronomic perspective , the winter months are relatively slow as well . We ’ re applying pre-emergent herbicide around tee and green slopes to get ahead of the winter weed outbreak . The two primary weed types this time of year are annual poa and various broadleaf weeds . Poa can be challenging to control , so using a pre-emergent to prevent its growth is the best approach . Broadleaf weeds like dandelion and cudweed are easier to manage and can be sprayed once they ’ ve sprouted . We ’ ve made great progress reducing weed pressure and will remain vigilant to keep the course in top condition .
I hope everyone has a fantastic start to the New Year , and I look forward to seeing you on the course !
